Curtis Salgado e o câncer de fígado

Eu tinha ficado triste, há um ano, quando soube que o Curtis estava com câncer. Mas parece que ele está bem melhor agora, com chances de recuperação completa. Eu só tenho um CD dele, "Wiggle outta this", mas gosto muito.

CURTIS SALGADO BAND NEWS RELEASE

All-Star Benefit Concer for Curtis Salgado Scheduled for April 29, 2007 in Eugene, OR

Portland, OR - March 26, 2007 - "A Concert for Curtis II" featuring an all-star lineup is set to perform in the Silva Concert Hall at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts in Eugene, Oregon on April 29, 2007.

KLCC will welcome the Curtis Salgado Band along with special guests, Steve Miller, Charlie Musselwhite, Kim Wilson, Little Charlie & the Nightcats as well as other surprise guests in a benefit concert to support Curtis Salgado and his recovery from a recent liver transplant. All net proceeds will be donated to the "Curtis Salgado Fund" in an effort to help pay for expenses related to his battle with liver cancer.

The singer-songwriter and harmonica idol was raised in Eugene, OR where he is best known as the inspiration for John Belushi’s character of Joliet Jake in the Blues Brothers as well as his six year involvement with the Robert Cray Band. Salgado went on to become a member of the Grammy Award winning band Roomful of Blues and enjoyed a short stint as vocalist for Santana. The former Handy Award nominee has been recovering at home and working on new material for his next album as a follow-up to his last three critically acclaimed CDs for Shanachie Entertainment.

Salgado who was diagnosed with liver cancer on March 23, 2006 underwent a successful liver transplant surgery on September 30, 2006 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Overall, his recovery has gone well. He did undergo a second surgery three weeks after his transplant due to abdominal bleeding. He was also hospitalized for a suspected rejection episode, but both issues have been resolved.

Salgado's transplant team says his liver function is completely normal. They expect him to make a full recovery. Right now, specialists are closely monitoring his medications and overall condition, as is standard practice. Salgado will continue his follow-up care in Oregon. He may return to Nebraska for annual check-ups.

The performance will begin at 7:00PM and a silent auction will take place at 6:00PM.
